If Allie doesn't find a ghost soon, her short career as a "Summoner" will be a thing of the past, so she is delighted to find what she thinks is the tortured spirit of a gorgeous, naked, wounded man. But the cranky spirit doesn't need her help since he isn't a ghost but the best-selling author of vampire romances and Moravian Dark One. Allie wants answers from Christian, but he is more interested in working out the exact nature of their relationship, since fate has chosen Allie as his "Beloved."

I decided to give this a shot- I generally like Katie MaCalister's work although I didn't think the first book in the Dark Ones series was one of her best. I am glad I gave it a second chance here! The second book has redeemed the series; I read it in 2 days and loved it. I recommend this although I think you would have to read the first book in order to understand some of the circumstances of the story.

Similarities of Christine Feehan's Dark Hunters. The DH here is named the "Dark One" and he also needs to find a woman to redeem his soul. The woman takes the form of a Summoner; someone who summons ghosts, poltergeists, and demon lords. Macalister's book is lighter than Feehan's DH books and there's less sex. Both authors are good reads depending what mood you're in. A quick and fun read, humorous, especially when the protagonist deals with the 5 ghosts in her keep.

This is an engaging and humorous romance. When the friends of Christian decide to help him find his Beloved, they go all out. She falls into her powers as a Summoner and into his arms at the same time. A good read.

Weird book. I liked some of her other more "mainstream" romances much better. And although I like her sense of humor, I am finding common threads to all of her heroines in their speech mannerisms (which makes her characters seem a little too similar). Good book to read on an airplane.

If Allie doesn't find a ghost soon, her short career as a "Summoner" with United Psychical Research Association will be a thing of the past, so naturally she is delighted to find what she thinks is the tortured spirit of a gorgeous, naked, wounded man. But the cranky spirit, who looks exactly like the dishy man who has been haunting Allie's dreams, doesn't need her help since he isn't a ghost, but rather Christian Dante, best-selling author of vampire romances and Moravian Dark One. Of course, Allie wants some answers from the arrogant and domineering Christian, but he is more interested in working out the exact nature of their relationship, since fate has chosen Allie as his "Beloved." First met in MacAlister's A Girl's Guide to Vampires [BKL O 15 03], Christian, along with several other characters, returns to find his true love as the always entertaining MacAlister continues her delectable contemporary paranormal series with another sinfully sexy, fabulously fun tale of love, vampires, ghosts, and demons.

I enjoyed this book a bit more than the first one, although the tone of the book shifted with the change in character perspective. It was definitely more addictive - at least, at first. On the other hand, the first book was hard to start, addictive at the end. I also feel that the plot is not as strong and the reader related less to the character in this book than in the first.

Either way, The Dark Ones series is an enjoyable, and guilty pleasure read. I highly recommend swapping the books, because you will go through these books quickly.

This is sequel to the first "Dark Ones" series, in this book Christian sets out to find his beloved. Instead he gets an overbearing and not in the least what he expected women, who doesn't want him. She is a ghost summoner and during her adventures in London she lands herself into a sticky situation, one in which her Dark One must help her out of.

I didn't enjoy this book as much as I enjoyed the last one. It didn't have the same humor the other book contained. Her sarcastic characters stayed the same but there were no laugh out loud moments. Also the steamy scenes were really nothing more the warm water in my opinion. I just didn't feel what I wanted to feel between Christian and his beloved. Ill give the next one a try in hopes she can redeem herself.

I absolutely love the Dark Ones series!! Great book with a little bit of everything in it... Dashing, handsome dark hero, sassy, if not a little scarred Heroine, and a funny cast of new friends and patience required to deal with ghosts. Recomend 100% to anyone.

This was every bit as witty and slightly different with more magic involved than book 1. I liked it very much. Mr. Dante (said single vampire) is nothing if not serious about a Summonor, Allegra (Allie) who suddenly has a very odd mix of ghosts surrounding her since coming to England. Very light hearted in most places.

This book picks up where Book 1 leaves off, so the characters of Joy and Roxy come with it. This is vampire Christian's story of how he meets his real Beloved. I enjoy good dialog between characters, especially ones from different centuries. Some very funny scenes with ghosts and some very tender scenes too. I enjoyed getting to know Christian's and Allegra's characters. Gave it 4 stars.

After reading both her Ashling Grey and Silver Dragons Novels, I find myself a little disappointed in this series since the others were more fluid and engaging. Though it does occur in the same "world" as those series which you find out in this book as it takes off into the vampires side of the story. This book was more well written than the previous one in the series and I hope to see even more improvement in #3 but alas it doesn't drive me to pre-order the next one like the Dragons series (whose next installment comes out in October!).

Sometimes MacAllister is unexpectedly funny, which is why I like to read some of her books. It's when she goes into new magical territory that I enjoy her stories, this one was really not much new... and I really don't get that the guy/dark one is haunted for hundreds of years until he find his beloved, CORNEY-->> come on, meanwhile he's having sex every night with one woman after another.

Cutesy Engaging Title. Paraphrased from the Back Cover: A Vampire is searching for the one woman who can redeem his soul - unfortunately, he's Nine-Hundred years old and is all out of handy pick-up lines. Even more unfortunately the woman he's interested in sees dead people and likes to play with demons.

She's a summoner - she can make ghosts, poltergeists, and demons (one of which has the odd idea that appearing as Shirley Temple circa The Good Ship Lollipop will be terrifying to humans) appear before her...except that she can't seem to then make them disappear. She also doesn't believe in vampires. Try romancing your favorite vampire with all of THAT going on.

Feed Bag!!! ACK!

My grocer on the corner has more alluring qualities with his talks of luscious mouth watering plump tomatoes than Christian Dante aka vampire possesses in this sex titled sequel in the Dark Ones series. Macalister is really writing fiction here when she expects a 900 yr old vampire to change is ways for a testosterone woman who wears granny panties.

While it held an intriguing story of a Summoner of Ghosts batting against a threesome backed up with demonic power holding another Dark One captive, 280 pages worth of annoying characters and disappointing sex scenes later, I finally felt really interested in the plot. Only to be disappointed again with one of my favorite characters, Ralphael, knocked unconscious and used as a feed bag to revitalized another vampire. Once again the comic relief from Macalister in this book leads me to disappointment.

Like all Katie Macalister books, I found this one to be laugh out loud funny at parts. A 900 year old vampire gets hooked up with a woman with a bad past who refuses to be the Middle Ages doormat he's used to having around. Nice growth in the characters and page turning tension in the begining. Great summer read.

This book left me cold, and not in a cool, vampire-y way. The heroine seemed a few bricks shy of a load most times and then had brilliant (and impossible) insight at other times. I didn't see the purpose of her handicap; it seemed tossed in various locations at the last minute. I finished the book, but just felt annoyed by the end.

Follows the usual formula of American comes to Europe, meets dreamy vampire, trouble and hilarity and arguments ensue, blood and body fluids are swapped, and everybody ends up happy. Except the bad guys, they always get a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. I'm going to take a break from this series; I've read three lately, and I can't keep the characters and story lines straight because they are the same, minus a few plot and sex scene changes.
