I like this series. This is an upright man, never cloying, finding truth wherever it lies. Writing style of the period.

Well, MAJ Abel Jones is on another quest to solve another mystery. This quest takes him to A Northern New York town where he is to solve a riddle of Federal Agents who have been tortured to death.
He runs up against a angry public, séances and a ruthless fiend who manipulates a your lady to pose as his daughter.
In the fracas our honorable Major Jones gets hurt while trying to locate the source of these ilicit happenings.
I enjoyed this almost as much as the first book "Faded Coat of Blue" by the same author Owen Parry. However, his first book was written much better.
