This is a great book. It is a haunting love story. This from the cover. Surely Carolyn was dreaming. The ghostly legends of Thornwyck Catle could't be true. Tiernan O'Rouke had lived nearly three hundred years earlier; he couldn't still walk the great halls, waiting for the return of the woman he'd lost. Carolyn wanted to deny the irrsistable spirit that called to her from a wonderous realm of rapturous passion and unknown peril. But in the fading echoes of the past swept Carolyn into a time she'd never known--and into the arms of the lover who was her destiny.
A shadow in the dark ... A whisper in the night ... A man reaching out to her...

From the first night she spends in her Aunt Beth's Ancient Thornwyck Castle, Carolyn knows something is wrong. Alien thoughts float through her mind, the face in the mirror is hers-but different-and a specter appears in her room. But her unease quickly turns to panic when the legendary castle ghost tries to kill her. A paranormal in the Gothic tradition, this rather lengthy book by Kells (A Deeper Hunger, Dorchester, 1994) features some interesting Irish history, an appropriately brooding atmosphere, and a vile villian. However, the story would have benefited from more complete characterization of the two main protagonists and a higher degree of sexual tension.
