British mystery featuring Scotland Yard's Superintendent Duncan Kincaid and Sergeant Gemma Jones. Early in a long series that follows both these characters. A great procedural.

Deborah Crombie has done a fantastic job of creating a pair of Scotland Yard detectives, Duncan Kincaid and Gemma James. All Shall Be Well is the second book in the series, and I would suggest reading these in order. The first is Share in Death. If you like your mystery spiced with personal attraction, these are the books for you.

Finishing this book finally brings me up to date on the series. After reading the others in a somewhat scattered sequence, it was good to finally learn about Jasmine, and about Kincaid's investigation of her suspicious death. This book is where several of the recurring characters really take shape, and it lays the groundwork for what they become in later entries. A pretty good mystery, too; Crombie is admirably skilled in juggling plot threads and keeping the reader guessing. This is a series I recommend often for its good storytelling and good writing.

This was an entertaining mystery that mostly managed to hold my attention. It seemed a little old fashioned to me, almost as if I'd stepped back into time but sometimes that's a good thing.

When an investigator's friend dies of a morphine overdose he doesn't believe it was suicide. The book then delves into the dead woman's life to discover the culprit. I found this all pretty interesting and the eventual outcome surprised me. I'm going to check out more from this writer.

Another good one. I'm trying to read them in order, but it's hard to resist a new one.

This is one of my favorite series. The relationship between Duncan and Gemma is intereseing, since they are remanically involved and work together. If you like Elizabeth George's Inspector Lynly books, you will like this series, too.

I started reading this series based on a recommendation of a PBS member, and I like them. I like the character of Duncan Kincaid and each book has a very interesting plot. I like the way the author develops the character so you begin to know him and his partner, Gemma James. The plot thickens in this book when a neighbor of Kinkaid supposedly dies in her sleep but Kinkaid's does not like it when he begins to see certain things that just don't fit. He starts his own investigation until he finds the killer. Good read.

#2 Duncan Kincaid & Gemma James Scotland Yard mystery in which Duncan's neighbor Jasmine dies, at first presumably a natural death from lung cancer. But a few things don't sit quite right in Duncan's mind and when a friend of hers mentions that at one time Jasmine had approached her about doing an assisted suicide when the time came, Duncan requests a post-mortem. By the time the results come back (massive overdose of morphine), other things have cropped up making Duncan and eventually Gemma wonder if it might be murder rather than suicide. Very enjoyable read, so much so that I did something I don't very often do--I proceeded directly to the next book in this series!

Why did terminally ill Jasmine Dent, with only a few months to live, commit suicide? Duncan Kincaid, her upstairs neighbor and Crombie's Scotland Yard hero, is uneasy. Too much doesn't add up. Treating the 40-something woman's death as suspicious, he and his partner Gemma James begin trying to learn something about the aloof Jasmine's life in hopes of shedding light on her death. Did she or didn't she? If she didn't, who did?

Very well written especially when you consider the author has written only 1 other book. Her characters were real in that I missed them when I had finished the book. It is a very good mystery whose ending was a surprise to me. I never saw it coming. It is indeed a very small world.

Jasmine Dent dies in her sleep...at long last an end has come to the suffering of a body horribly ravaged by disease. It may well have been suicide; she had certainly experssed her wilingness to sped the inevitable..but small inconsistencies leadh er neighbor, Superintendent Duncan Kincaid of Scotland Yard, to a startling conclusion..Jasmine Dent was murdered.
Why would someone kill her when her disease was so far advanced and she was already doomed?
As Kincaid and his staff sift through the dead woman's strange history, a troubling puzzle begins to take shape..a bizarre amalgam of good and evil, of charity and crime..and the blinding passions that can drive the human animal to perform cruel and inhuman acts.
