I was disappointed in this book. I didn't find the relationship between the main characters very believable and it had a surprising amount of gratuitous sex scenes especially compared to her other books. Without giving spoilers, I felt readers were left hanging at the end with some holes in the plot that were never really satisfactorily explained. This is listed as Book 1, so perhaps more explanation is intended in a future book.

I liked it when I first read it back in 2015, and it's an easy fast read, moving along briskly with some good action scenes. But this time around I was a little more skeptical. The whole "you can't help who you love" thing makes Maria sound more like Kathleen than I found comfortable. She doesn't seem to have matured any in the 15 years she's been involved with Dante...she has little life outside work and then waiting for him to come back. She mopes around and pines. Why is he so wonderful? We don't know anything about him other than he shows up and they have sex. What do they talk about if he won't talk about the majority of his life? Why does he think he's some kind of abomination, when he has family members with the same condition and there are others scattered about the country? Who was the husky? Anyway...there's lots of sex, and it has a happy ending for Maria, I guess.
