#1 Duncan Kincaid/Gemma James British police procedural in which Supt. Kincaid is on holiday in Yorkshire, taking his cousin's place last-minute at a timeshare at a small-town country estate turned B&B. When the body of the assistant manager, whom Kincaid met and liked, is found floating in the Jacuzzi along with a plugged-in electric space heater, the holiday starts to seem too much like work. I've had this book on my TBR for ages and am sorry I haven't read it sooner. This looks to be another Brit police series that I'm going to quite enjoy and have ordered the second in series from PBS.
First in the Duncan Kincaid/Gemma James series. The series starts out well and only gets better as the books continue.
A modern version of the stately country home murder with a finite number of suspects. Whodunit will probably be a surprise
The first in a series of Scotland Yard detectives Duncan Kincaid and Gemma James. Well written, good characters, and a good story.
I thought this was good. I look forward to reading more in this series and hope there's more with Gemma's character. I really liked her.
This is the first Duncan Kincaid/Gemma James book and it is great just like all Crombie's books.
Pretty well written, but I did guess the killer by halfway through....
I like the Gemma James character. This one of the series is mostly about Kincaid, however.
This is the first book on the Duncan Kincaid and Gemma James mysteries. A very good read, I liked the character of Duncan Kincaid, Superintendent Kincaid takes a holiday at a time-share and instead of relaxing he is involved in a murder plot...a body floating in a hot-tub, followed by another murder. He calls his Sargent for help in investigating a crime that is not in his district, but he cannot help but get involved. i liked it.
very enjoyable british (although she's actually american!) mystery. first of a series i take it.
A week's holiday in a luxurious Yorkshire time-share is just what Scotland Yard's Superintendent Duncan Kincaid needs. But the discovery of a body floating in the whirlpool bath ends Kincaid's vacation before it's begun
First book in the series - excellent read.
A book that kept me guessing. Wide range of characters & some delightful incidentals.
Enjoyed the book, but liked Louise Penny better. It feels like you have to read the next one and the next one.
easy read. first in a series
The First Kincaid and James mystery
A good entertaining mystery. Realistic characters. I plan to read the entire series.
I started this series in the middle, and liked it so much that I've gone back to read all the earlier books. This is the first one, and while it's not quite as well written as later entries, still shows the beginnings of the characters I've come to know and enjoy. The plot is nothing new, a standard British country house murder. The many names and faces were confusing at first, but settled down into a solid mystery. A good beginning to a stand-out series.
It was a peaceful fholiday until a body was found in the whirlpool. The DS Duncan Kincaid of Scotland Yard gets to work investigating murder amidst the secluded loveliness of a Yorkshire time-share. His partner Gemma James has to come and help solve the puzzle.
a body is washed up into a whirlpool bath. Scotland yard investigates.
