I'm at work right now and in today's mail I received a $50 cert for Barnes & Noble from a staff member at one of our offices that closed in June 2009. My office (med records) had to furnish her office with privileged information as clients transitioned from our services to the new provider and as a thank-you for having done all this extra work she sent me the gift certificate.

I'm absolutely floored - now comes the fun of deciding what to buy. I was drooling over some trade sized paperbacks from favorite authors the last time I was there in February. I'm so flabbergasted and excited I don't know what to do!

ooh wait for some coupons and use them one a time if you're shopping in person! IF you can restrain yourself..I had that goal with Borders but went bonkers that trip in the store adn walked out with one book with a 40% coupon and 3 others that jumped in my arms...

What a great gift! I definitely suggest checking out the books you are interested in at bn.com. Trade size and HCs are usually discounted at least a little.

Gail -- Are there any old, used books that are hard to find or expensive that you might want?  You could always spend that money at bn.com for used books too.  Almost everything on my WL is out of print and expensive!

Awesome gift idea!!! I wish someone in my family would get the hint and do this for me on my Birthday, Mother's Day or Christmas. They all know i love books and i drop tons of hints. They just don't get it! lol

I wouldn't have spent it yet.  Half the fun of getting a gift certificate is trying to decide what you'll spend it on and dreaming of the stuff you can get with it.  You don't get that if you spend it right away!
