I was shocked recently to see that my hardcover copy of A Thousand Splendid Suns was pending  on a wishlist.  Wah!  I didn't post that!  It was the audio I posted....NOT.

I clicked the wrong book.

Well, as much as I don't like doing this, I was going to cancel after it was accepted because there is no way, I suddenly discovered, to cancel until someone accepts the offer.  While waiting, I would just post my audio version.

Which I did.  It was quickly swooped up, sent off, and already received. The hardcover that was put on hold first is floating in this black hole now being offered to the fourth person.

A shame when we find a mistake like this we just can't quickly cancel and get the book OFF our shelf were it belongs.

Bonnie,

I completely agree with you.  It would be nice if before the book is offered to a WL, there's a confirmation sent to the sender to confirm that you do still have the book available to send, or that the sender can cancel a request before it's been accepted.

Well you are helping to clear out some dead accounts and move the WL for the hardcover along faster.

Also if you put your account on hold just before the next one is about to time out-it shoudl go on your shelf on hold then you can delete it and unhold your account.  I frequently go on hold and have had to unhold to get a WL book to go to the next in line because someone decline or let it time out. I was also able to do this when I had a vacation coming up and a WL book was cycling through inactive accounts.  I went on hold becasue I no longer hd time to mail it out.

That's the first thing I thought of too - you're doing a Public Service! :-)

Aside to Mary: My wife just walked by and did a doubletake on your signature line male eye-candy. A fair bit daring actually, now that I actually look! I doubt I could get away with feminine equivalent, but what the hey - gals have gotten the short end of the eye-candy stick for a long time. I'll not begrudge you a little fun!

Mine are actually pretty tame.  Go check out one of the romance or erotica swaps in the games forum.  They also put half-nekkid woman in their signatures.  A couple have been reprimanded for having pictures of couples that were too graphic.

There were a couple of gamers who had pictures of 2 people in very suggestive positions and some animated avi's.  I still see some on there so I don't know exactly where they draw the line.

Oh, Mary, I had no idea!  I was just about to do that when it magically appears the 5th, I think, wisher must have just declined.  There is nothing on my account page to show it is on hold for # 6.  Phew.  So I hurried to my bookshelf to delete, and damn!  There is another exclamation point showing it is on someone's wishlist, even though it isn't showing as pending.  Or someone just immediately wished.

Baffling.

But I am off to put my account on hold and try your suggestion.

ETA:  Odd, on the bookshelf page the book is still on hold for someone, but on my account page it is totally gone.

There is always a PM box there.  I check that, and note when the name changes.

Oh, no!  It just got accepted!  Boy, I hate to do this to someone, accept only to cancel.
