Excellent book!!
From book cover:
Melanie Wyatt always prided herself on being a good motheruntil the night she awakened from a dream to find her baby dead. Now court-appointed psychologist Paul Murphy faced the greatest challenge of his career: to determine what actually happened that horrifying night. Did beautiful, demure Melanie kill her own child? Or had something more sinister and unbelievable occurred, causing her to erase the awful incident from her memory? Only Melanie knew the answerand it lay buried deep within her troubled, confused mind.

This absorbing first novel covers the familiar terrain of the police procedural with style and passion. Reed, opens with a show-stoppera mother is suspected of killing her baby. Next, he astutely concentrates not on the turning wheels of justice but on the psyches of accusers and defenders alike. Reed discloses just enough about each character for the reader to understand why each is predisposed to find Melanie, the hapless mother, culpable. Reeds intricately balanced tension and emotional pitch sustain the plot flawlessly.
