Jeanne, I was thinking the same thing!  My fear is that everyone is reading wonderful books I've never heard of....they'll come back here and post marvelous reviews....I will read the reviews and covet the books...see where I'm going with this?  surprise

Welcome back Erika. After reading your post in the "July - what are you reading thread", it sounds like all that working paid off! Did you get his phone number?? wink

Vicky - let me guess - MORE BOOKS!!! I truly do know the feeling. I think that my reading challenge for next year is going to be "how many books from my TBR can I get through?"

I think it might be a "summer" kinda thing.  The other board I hang out in-Love and Romance-has been really quiet too.

So...I caved and purchased Weir's "Lady Elizabeth" at Waldens over the weekend-40% with a gift card too.  Happy dance when I saw it because my Waldens doesn't carry alot of "my" historical fiction.  Do I wait for "Innocent Traitor" which is coming from PBS or dive right into LE?

Things get slow in the summertime, same thing's happening at HFO. Goodreads still hops though.

Aw, Erika, I laughed aloud at that one! I can see how that would happen though - a good looking guy buying a GOOD book - what a combination!!!

Also, I've been busy celebrating some news I received last week.  You guys may remember that I'm a big hockey fan, in particular the Capitals.  Well, I write a Caps blog for fun, and last week The Fourth Period (a hockey magazine with a particularly large distribution in Canada) asked me to be their Capitals Correspondent for next season.  I'll be writing weekly articles on their website.  I'm beyond excited!  It's a huge opportunity for me to get some really good exposure.

So I'll be quitting B&N, which is fine because the place is driving me nuts anyway.  But I'm psyched!

Erika:  That is wonderful news.  Congratulations!  I'm a hockey fan too, but nothing like your awesome self.

Oh yea things are picking up around here again! Congratulations Erika!!  My DH used to coach hockey and 2 of our grandsons (ages 5 and 8) are hockey players. I too, was an Avalanche fan, but now, not so much a fan of any sport at present. Be sure if you get involved with any hockey players, Erika, that they have good taste in reading and preferably have all their teeth!wink

Oh, drat, Vicky -- we were hoping to keep it a secret from you because that is exactly what we are all doing -- reading wonderful books with the aim of posting wonderful reviews just to make your TBR stacks even more wobbly and unmanageable. Better start saving your credits and gift cards!! wink

Congratulations, Erika! How cool is that?!

Just curious, do you have a journalism background?

Oh, drat, Vicky

Looks like the cat's outta the bag. LOL!

[Shaking head at Erika's missed opportunity.]

Erika - Well, the guy got away, but congrats on the new gig!  How fun for you!

I've been busy at NOT READING!  blush We went to the lake this past weekend (Friday morning through later Sunday evening), and I forgot my book!  Good lord!  Well, it probably didn't matter as we had company, and I would've had no time to read.  So, I'm hoping to get all my stupid housework done this afternoon and have some time to read (still reading Jorneyer.)

I do not have a journalism background at all, which makes this even the more miraculous.  But I've always been a good writer so I guess they saw that in me!  Took one journalism class in college, and got something like a B+ if I remember right.  Was a psych major in college!  Ha!

But thanks for all the congrats, I'm thrilled.

Erika, that sounds like the perfect opportunity for you! Although I am a little bummed that I'll never get the chance to use your B&N discount now. Drat.

I can't believe you didn't get the phone number! Do you know how much fun we could have had living vicariously through your first date?!! Please think of our feelings when you next see a cute guy. LOL!

I never have as much free time in the summer. Summer is my time, the time I love most and there is always a million things I want to do. I also spend more time reading in the summer because my favorite place to read is outside on my swing, especially since my DH rigged a fan in the tree that blows right on me. With the fan, the wind chimes, and the comfy swing, I could stay there all day. Well, actually I've been a little scared of my swing since last Saturday. My son and one of his friends rigged it up to flip me out when I sat down on it. It worked like a charm, too, flipped me right on on my butt. Those boys are evil! EVIL! I'll get them back though....

Hahaha I KNOW I'm such an IDIOT!  angry  Also I figured a good-looking, smart guy like that, he's got to already have a girlfriend.

Oh, Valli -- LOL (really)! But I do feel sorry for your son and his friends. I can hardly imagine the revenge you have planned.

And yes, I agree with Valli, you (Erika) should certainly have more consideration for our feelings when you meet cute guys -- living vicariously is what some of us do best (that's why we spend so much time reading!).

Valli - Ouch!  Perhaps as revenge you could invite your son and his friends into your kitchen for a little cooking fun.  Ummm, "interesting" things happen when you're in the kitchen.

OMG, Valli, you are too much! ROTFL!

especially since my DH rigged a fan in the tree that blows right on me.

Seriously, though, where do you all find these guys?

Holy Toledo.  Now that's cool!

I'm so sorry, Valli...but this just cracked me up!  LOL...

Erika, Erika...*shakes head, taps toe*...what are we going to do with you?  Congrats on the writing gig, though!
