The authors allow us to understand the mind of why and how Jack Coughlin did his deadly war work. I found it the type of book I can recommend without any reservation to someone who is remotely interested in how one of the most successful snipers did his job. He is a great American.

I enjoyed this book. It was a very descriptive no apologies look at a snipers role in the Iraqi war.

This is definitely a page turner. I havn't read many Military books, and I find that this book offers significant insight into the minds of those involved in the war in Iraq. I highly recommend to anyone who can stand literary-gore.

Gunnery Sgt. Jack Coughlins detailed account of his time in the Iraq war as a sniper. I like these books from the soldier's point of view cutting through the media & political spin. Jack describes the mindset, precision, mathematical equations & decisions a sniper has to make in wartime. Clashes with upper officers ("Bob" reminds me of the "bob" in Benghazi) and frustration with decisions made from people a world away making decisions who have never been in combat. Leading a team of Marines and forming a platoon of trust and friendship while death is all around.

Coughlin and Kuhlman were with the 7th Marines, Battalion 3/4, in action constantly through Operation Iraqi Freedom which brought the curtain down on Saddam Hussein.

Sniper Coughlin earlier was in action in Somalia.

This book provides a clear, dispassionate treatment of these modern conflicts and particularly the physical and mental challenges faced by the sniper in these diverse environments. This is a well written account which offers a detailed inside explanation of the demanding work and experiences of the modern warrior to those of us who have not "been there".

After reading several books written by retired generals, it's nice to read a book from a soldier's perspective during a war. From preparation to completion of tasks, Coughlin has given us a glimpse of his daily routines and challenges. Overall, this book is a light read. While a few excerpts slowed the tempo of the book, the rest of the book kept you rivited to your seat.

Good book to read for someone who is looking for realistic view from actual Shooter perspective.
