I've only read one other book by this author which was ok but not great. This book was terrible. The plot was ok but it wasn't until 2/3 of the way through before you realized why Dr. Melvin was a problem. Melanie Joan is panicked for no apparent reason over her ex-husband who is stalking her. She can give no reasonable explanation as to why she is terrified of him which is irritating. He does nothing but stand outside of where ever she is and watch and yet she has a panic attack each time. I kep thinking, geez if he's that scary you must have a reason...spill it already. Melanie Joan is one of the insipid females you just want to slap the crap out of and be done with it.

I also didn't like the female lead, Sonya "Sonny" Randall. She was beyond irritating too. She divorced her husband, Richie, for whatever reason (you never do find out why) yet she pines for him and is overly jealous of his new girlfriend. And the whole Rosy issue made me want to scream. Don't get me wrong, I love pets but the icky kissy kissy isn't she precious BS between Sonny and Richie was nauseating and annoying as hell. I figured they were making such a big deal out of the dog because she was going to be a victim of Dr. Melvin but nope it was just a bizarre side plot with no relevance to the story at all.

I did enjoy Spike and would have liked more face time with his character. He seemed like the kind of guy you'd enjoy hanging out with and wouldn't even have to slap.

All in all, not sure I could stomach another novel by this author.
