This book shows the Amish way of life. It is light reading and could be appropriate reading for teens. I liked the insight into the Amish. Their life is so simple and humble. It is a nice example of another way.

Katie Lapp was raised in a quiet Amish community in PA. On the eve of Katie's wedding she learns startling news that devastates her and sends her on a mission to find out who she really is. When she pulls away from Amish tradition, and won't repent before the church, she is shunned by the Amish community and her own family.

From the back cover...

In the quiet Amish community of Hickory Hollow, Pennsylvania, time has stood still while cherished traditions and heartfelt beliefs have flourished. But a secret lies buried that could shatter the tranquility its inhabitants have grown to love.

When Katie Lapp stumbles upon a satin infant gown in the dusty leather trunk of her parents attic, she knows it holds a story she must discover. Why else would her Amish mother, a plain and simple woman who embraces the Old Order laws, hide the beautiful baby dress in the attic?

On the eve of Katie's wedding to widower Bishop John, startling news staggers our of her anguished parents, and nothing prepares Katie for the devastation their confession brings. Feeling betrayed, Katie watches as the only life she has ever known begins to unravel, leaving in its wake a furrow of pain...and a future of hope.

The book held your interest, but is too 'teen angst' for adults. I grew up with the Amish and find the characters too cardboard, predictable and one-dimensional. More suited to a teen-read, in my opinion. Am I glad I read it? Sort of.
