Having spent 6 years living in the area that this book is about (Benton Harbor/St. Joseph), I was compelled to read this story. The author has not only told the story of the death of a young man, but also effectively portrayed the overall feel of the area... not just 15 years ago, but still today. Anyone who believes that racism and economical differences don't play a part in everyday society, he or she need only read this account to understand the effect that such feelings have in the world today.

A sad story of grief, anger, resentment, and more... made more compelling when one realizes that this happened less than 2 decades ago and that some of these hard feelings remain in place to this day.
