it seems since, I don't know, this year, that I have to sign in twice because the first time gives me a message about having 'cookies' turned off (which I do).  That doesn't seem to keep the second sign-in from being successful.  Also, the site doesn't 'remember me' as I ask it to do.  Is something new?

If you cannot get the site to "remember you", even though you have checked the "remember me" box on the Member Login page:

  • You need to adjust your browser's frequency of clearing cookies.
  • Cookies are what allow your browser to "remember you"
  • If your browser is set to clear out cookies every day, the "remember me" function won't work.
  • You can do adjust the frequency of cookie-clearing:
    • in the Preferences:Privacy:Cookies menu for FireFox
    • in the Tools:Internet Options menu for Internet Explorer.

If you have cookies turned off then there is no way for the site to 'remember you', it HAS to drop a cookie on your machine for it to do that. Did you change that setting on your machine? That setting is what is prompting these messages.

If you are worried about cookies from other sites, you can enable them just for this website, or any sites you trust.
