Since October of 2011 I began exercising, slowly at first and now I take double classes twice a week.  I do anything from spin, pilates, step, and circut training.  It has also motivated me to start eating better and I also gave up my morning coffee so no more caffeine for me.  It took me awhile to find the right gym but now I love where I am.

As of this morning I have lost 12 pounds and I signed up for my first 5K.  It is a 5K but with a challenging (and crazy) obstacle course in it, the race is called The Rugged Maniac.  I have formed a team of 9 friends and we are running this in late September.

Last night I went to our local track and walked a lap, ran a lap, walked a lap, ran a lap....I ran a total of 4 laps and walked a total of 5 laps!  I was tired but felt really good.  I have never run before and was not the athletic type growing up.

This journey has been challenging but a good one.  I am fortunate to have a husband and many good friends also watching what they eat and working out with me.  It is much easier to have someone beside you pushing and encouraging you.

I decided to do it too!!! My first 5K is 7/28. Found a plan to train in 8 weeks (based on the premise that you can walk 30 minutes at a brisk pace already). Just finished week 1 of the program.

I just changed my first 5k to a week earlier. 7/21. The one I was gonna run on 7/28 sold out before I signed up. I didn't even know that happened!

Stephenie, let us know how it goes.  I have lost 16 lbs so far and continue to train.  I will admit that the summer months I find that I have less and less time to fit in my workouts and have had to scale them back a bit.  I hope I can make it in September.

Thanks Wendy - I will. I signed up for a 5K in September too. I had a friend who is a runner tell me if you always have a race that you are training for it helps you stick with it. Good Luck to you!!

this happens all the time! There are races that let you sign up the day of, but popular, established races tend to fill up early. Also, sometimes when you register that day you pay more and might not get a T-shirt.

I finished my 5K obstacle course on Saturday - it was incredible!  We had a team of 7 and had a great time and lots of laughs.  I haven't felt this in shape in a long, long time.  I am a size smaller than I was when I started having kids.

I encourage everyone to try to work a little more excerise into their lives.  Even just a 15 minute brisk walk at lunch time till do you a world of good.  Get up and get moving!  A quote that I have remembered throughout my training......If it is important to you, you'll find a way.  If it is not, you will find an excuse.

Finished my 3rd 5k Saturday. Fun - I a guessing there was 1000 people there. Afterwards you got a free glass of wine and got to keep the glass. It was called Wine at the Line  - held at a winery. Beautiful run.

My new year's resolution is to run 8 5K races this year. I did 5 last year after taking up running in May. My first one will be an 8K because its super close to my house!!
