Another outstanding thriller. Gerritsen writes stories so layered, they are like a puzzle box. The pieces are always shifting and revealing new theories, new aspects, and just when you think you know who the bad guy is and what the true story is, she slides the pieces and you have more questions. And even when you get to the end and the puzzle is finally together, she throws one last surprise into the mix. I love it! It keeps you on the edge and turning page after page. I can never put her books down.

In this one, Jane is the focus and she is on the case of a murdered woman on a roof. The murder is so bizarre that it opens up questions to a mass murder-suicide from 19 years ago. And so the pieces slide. We only see a small peek at Maura in this one, and an even smaller peek at "Rat", the boy who saved Maura in the previous book. I was happy to get an update on how he was doing. But this book solely focuses on Jane's case and, as usual, Jane's risk taking, puts her in mortal danger again. Jane's team is still along for the ride, and she has a new team member who has more knowledge than anyone can guess. I don't want to give too much away, so I will say this was a brilliant thriller. If you haven't read any of her books, this one can stand alone. But you should start at the beginning so you know the history of all the players.

I am not a fan of the TV series so I read this my first attempt at the Rizzoli/Isles series and was pleasantly surprised. The twists and turns were well placed and keep me reading until the wee hours. Excellent!!!

Excellent read. I hated to see it end. Rizzolli is one tough cop.

This was the first Gerritsen book I read and I enjoyed it so much, I've gone back to the beginning and have been reading them in proper order now.

So far I've fully enjoyed every one of Tess Gerritsen's books I've managed to get my hands on. She writes good tight mysteries which get you thinking and keeps you interested. This one is a bit eerier than others I've read, and that made it even more interesting and mysterious. I highly recommend it.

I actually read it in just one day. I seldom have that kind of time to spare, but I really didn't want to put it down unfinished. Besides, my husband was waiting to read it, so I'm glad I got finished with it promptly. So was he.

I am not a fan of mystical books or those that deal with ghosts and spirits. This one did not fully but certainly had some mystical ideas. It was not my favorite Rizzoli and Isles books and I am wondering if they have in fact run their course. There just isn't much more to write about this two that is new.

Detective Jane Rizzoli investigates the murder of an unidentified woman on a tenement rooftop in Chinatown. Her hand was severed and her throat sliced open. With no clues as to her identity, Rizzoli search leads her to a nineteen year old murder-suicide in a Chinatown restaurant, and two cases involving missing teenage girls. Soon a martial arts instructor with ties to the old cases is involved, along with a retired cop, an Irish mobster, and lots of Chinese folklore.

I absolutely could not put this book down. There is so much going on with this story. Gerritsen starts with the mysterious body found in Chinatown, but soon pulls us into an old murder case at the Red Pheonix restaurant which is said to be haunted. The clues pile up with each chapter, but they also tie to other old unsolved cases. We only see a little of Maura Isles in this book. It's mostly told from Jane's point-of-view. My rating: 5 Stars.

Sadly, this book never grabbed my interest the way the other books in this series has.

I don't know why, but I didn't get into this one as I have the others. Don't get me wrong it was a great mystery, just did not appeal to me as much as her earlier ones.

I do, however, look forward to the next one. I love Rizzoli & Isles!
