A great holiday children's book! Based on the "Santa Train" that still runs today through the Appalachian Mountains. It teaches about giving back and about getting what is needed instead of what is wanted.

Homeschooling moms might be interested in the *FREE* literature-based unit study that goes along with this book at:

I love this book and I read it every year. Adults and children will enjoy it and it makes you feel warm and happy after you finish it. May even encourage deep thoughts.

I found an ex-library copy when I was leaving some books on the 'free' book truck near the door of the branch library and picked it up along with a couple of children's books in Spanish because of the excellent artwork. For myself I found it a little maudlin but I deal a lot with YA books where the characters make horrible decisions and this is for a much younger crowd. It did not circulate too much but enough and that there are over two dozen folks on the wish list here speaks well for the attraction of this story taking place when FDR was president to lower elementary school readers.
