This is a story of four very different women whose paths cross, changing their lives forever. As they stitch their unique creations, they form a sisterhood they never sought but one that they'll be grateful for when the unexpected provides a poignant reminder of the single thread that binds us all.

I couldn't wait to start this one, it got such great reviews from critics and readers alike. Evelyn Dixon has always dreamed about opening up a quilt shop. After her divorce, she relocates from Texas to New Bern, Conn. and after dealing with several issues connected to the old building she purchased for her shop and apartment, Evelyn's doors finally open. Here she forms friendships with several women with stories of their own.

I wish that I could say that I loved this book, but I couldn't even finish it. I was bored, I didn't like the characters or Ms. Bostwick's writing. It reminded me of Debbie Macomber's Shop on Blossom Street series, only not as well done.

This book became quite repetitious after awhile. Your typical friend with cancer and someone has a secret type of book.

Fifty-something Evelyn is devastated when her husband of twenty-five plus years suddenly asks for a divorce, with no direction, Evelyn decides to take off to Connecticut and check out the leaves. Since she is from Texas this seems like a perfectly reasonable thing to do. Upon arriving in the quaint town of New Bern she suddenly feels like she is home.

Evelyn has always dreamed of owning a quilt shop and low and behold, after turning down an out of the way alley she stumbles into the store front of her dreams. No one believes that it will work, but she is ready for the next step of her life. That is after she has a quick mammogram and since they have always come back normal before, why should this time be different.

The day before Evelyn is to host a Breast Cancer Quilt-a-thon she receives the inevitable bad news. And thus the story begins.

Four new friends are brought together, one has a secret, one has to build a new life, one has to get over the death of her mother and one is recently diagnosed with cancer. As Evelyn battles for her life, the friends form a Friday night quilt group and in time take over the shop and help Evelyn to build the business.

Apparently, this is the first in a series, I just hope that the next books wont play off all of the same old clichés and take the characters in a new less predictable direction.

I loved this book. I could not wait to get back to it after work each day. I could sympathize with Evelyn's trials and tribulations as she was trying to get her quilt store profitable. I also understood her feeling of being alone when she first moved to New Bern. Been there -- done that.

There is not a single voice in the book -- the book's chapters alternate voice with the main characters. I thought I would have a problem with that (I prefer one voice for the book.) But all of the characters are fully realized and it is easy to tell who is speaking (Bostwick does title each chapter with the name of the character speaking).

I have a wish in for the next in the series -- A Thread of Truth -- which is out the end of May. I want to visit the quilt shop again and see what's happening to the group there.
