I have been going crazy ever since I joined PBS.  For some reason this site stops working after a short while after I get on it.  I will do a couple things and then I will try to click to go somewhere else on the site and then the site stops responding.  I then have to close it and come back at a later time.  It is rather frustrating.  I have no problems with any other site, so I am pretty sure it is this site.

Does anyone else have this problem and maybe know what is going on?  I just noticed that my compatibilit view for this site is not pushed.  Maybe that will help?! Thoug i'm sureI was using IE7 when I first joined. hmmmm...

Thanks!

Krista, that has been happening to me at least once a day for the last several weeks.  I'm assuming it's because I'm still using EI6, there are other issues with the site connected with that.  I'm planning to get a new computer soon and have been coddling this old one so it keeps going til then, so I haven't wanted to update.

I'm new to this site, but I haven't had any problems since joining a couple weeks ago....and I spend a lot of time here.  I do use Firefox though.

Well, we know it is not the browser versions doing it with Diane using IE 6, Rosina 7 and i'm using 8.

I agree, Rosina, about Firefox.  I have Firefox Portable on a flash drive, but never use it.  I like IE and it I never have problems with any other site.  I have no plans to load up another browser just to access this site.

Actually, I had the oppostie problem a long time ago when I did try using Firefox.  It wasn't compatible with a lot of the sites I went to.  I had to keep going back to IE. I prefer it anyway.

Hmmm, i'm going to try to see if I can load the Top 50, curious.

Diane, seems like a new computer wont help when it comes to this site.  Might help your sanity as far as all around speed, but sadly not here.  I just bought some new memory for mine.  It is suppose to be here today. Wish me luck on it helping my dragging computer speed.

I frequently have the same problem on my work computer (IE 7 on a Vista OS) but no problems at home (Mac, whatever OS they came with back in 2006, running Firefox).

What I've been having happen is that it'll stop loading the site, and I can't hit refresh and have it reload.

Have you guys tried to clear your browser cache?  That helps me.  If you are in IE to clear the cache: Click the 'Tools' menu at the top of your browser, and select 'Internet Options'. Click the 'General' tab at the top of the dialogue box. Click 'Delete Files' under 'Temporary Internet files'. Select 'Delete all offline content' by checking the box. Click 'OK'.

since switching to firefox I have not had any problems.   I was using IE7 and the site froze if I was bouncing between tabs, adding tags, working on book edits.

I use IE here at work and Firefox at home and have not had any problems with either one of them.

I've been having that problem for the last two months.  I was using IE7.  I finally downloaded Firefox a few weeks ago and use it exclusively for PBS.  It's a bit of a pain since I like using Internet Explorer better, but at least Firefox doesn't continually freeze up on me.

I have that problem also, so sometimes I just open up a couple of PBS windows when I get on, and then just close down the unresponsive one, and start with a new one.  I've had the problem for quite some time, and just live with it.  I use IE but not sure what version.  Pat

I only use Firefox and don't have any problems with PBS or any other site I go to.  I haven't yet found one not compatible with Firefox.

Pat, that is a good idea. I might try it see if it will work for me.  I know it doesn't work if I try to open it again after the fact, but i'm going to try opening up an extra one firt when I come here.
