Ok, I haven't done anything different to my account lately (didn't change genres or add more books to the Books I've Read list or anything), and today every profile I've clicked on has had double digit similarities to my own!  I could swear that users I had maybe 5% similarity with yesterday now are like 20%.  Is it possible that PBS has tinkered with this recently and I just missed out hearing about it?  Just curious (I was so excited to see people with higher similarities because I am so used to have hardly anyone with the same interests, lol).

I've noticed higher ones, too.  Last night someone had a similarity of like 31% or something, and I was curious, but I had nothing similar to ANYTHING in their wishlist.  And now I have a similarity rating of 42% with you, and you don't appear to have any romances in yours, which is what mine mostly is.  I know it's based on stuff besides wish list, but you'd think it'd be more obvious where that number came from...

It'd be nice if you could click on the number and it would break it down, like "30% similarity in wish list, 15% for book ratings, etc."

It's funny.  I noticed that I'm finding some in the double digits, too.  But last week I found someone with 83%  similarity so me and for life of me I couldn't figure out why.  What we had in common - alive, age bracket, gender, member of PBS.  Nothing more I could find!

Okay, now I've determined that the similarity index is working using more info.  Everyone on my Buddy List who used to all being 0% to 5% aare now in the 30's with one at 43%  Shockingly to me I went to a member'sprofile and the similarity was 83% .  i couldn't believe it.  I like it better now - I'm not feeling so out of the mainstream any more!

I find that all the former 0%ers are now 34%, with no scores lower.  I think I made this comment someplace else a day or so ago, but I think it's more a calibration issue.  If it was just more sensitve I think there would still be people below 34, or that there'd at least be some variance there.

James - I've noticed the same thing.  If I were a 5% earlier with someone then I'm now about 36% give or take a point, and haven't comeacross anyone that's 0% like I used to .be - which gives some credence to my "breathing, gender and a member" theory!  ;D
