An interesting look at the Civil War as seen and told through those whose lives and futures hinged on the outcome. Interviews with former slaves regarding their life before, during and after Emancipation. Recollections of some of the major battles as seen by the servants accompanying their Southern masters/soldiers. Very well researched and thought-provoking.
