The book is Man and His Symbols by Carl Jung.

It was on my WL as ISBN 0440351839, I received a book with one ISBN inside , # 0-440-35183-5

When I enter that # in the system, no book exists as that. My question is will I be able to repost this one and should I RWAP?

I think I would have to enter all the info myself and have no bookcover picture attached. Or post it under the wrong ISBN and have the picture and info.

Thanks for any advice in advance.

Lori, you should RWAP since the ISBN#'s don't match and it's up to you if you want to ask the sender to return your credit.  It appears as the sender might have posted the book by title and not by the ISBN# and didn't make sure these 4 things matched:  title, author, ISBN# and book binding.

If you are going to repost the book, you will need to post it using the "post without an ISBN" feature.   You should not repost the book using the wrong ISBN#.

That is weird, I don't even think it should be possible. Before marking it RWAP, check the book over for the 13 digit ISBN too. If the 13 digit is on the book and correct, then it is posted correctly.

If the last digit is the only difference, then I say you should not mark the book received with a problem. Here's why: ISBNs are really only 9 digits long (or 12 digits if it's an ISBN-13).

The last digit is a check digit and if you know the first 9 digits, there's only one possible number that can go in the last place. 5 is not the valid check digit for 044035183. 9 is the valid check digit for this ISBN. Therefore, the last digit on your book is a misprint. The actual meaningful part of the number is printed correctly.

The right check digit may be on there somewhere too though. The book I'm reading right now has the ISBN on the back cover, inside the front cover, and on the publisher's page. I've also seen them printed on the spines of some books. So make sure and check everywhere. It's less likely that the number was misprinted in multiple places.

Melanie, I thought it was very odd too.  But I did some searching before I posted and found several sites showing the 35 number associated with this book.  This page shows both numbers

Horizon Information

At first, I thought perhaps the 39 just might have looked like a 35.

Hunter, Melanie and Cathy,

Thank-you very much for the info. I marked it RWAP-" wrong book", but explained that the book was fine, just the wrong ISBN.

No need for credit return as it is in really great shape for an older paperback. I'm sure the sender's intention was not to deceive, but just to make a swap.

So it's all good. Thanks!

P.S. That ISBN was also on the spine and the only # anywhere.

If there is a number on the publisher's page (the page after the title page) that has the correct last digit, then it's postable.  Otherwise, that's just strange, isn't it?

I went into the transaction archive and sent a " problem resolved " ," marked RWAP by mistake", so the sender should be OK.

Patty, no # except on the spine and one inside. it's a Dell Laurel Edition October 1979 Eighteenth Printing (I'll just keep it!)
