May 2006. Everyone deserves a second chance... back on her feet after a nasty divorce from local policeman Foley Blue, Lea Webster was getting ready to adopt the baby she had always wanted. But Foley was stalking Lea and his once idle threats were escalating to violence. Her cries for help went unheeded - no one wanted to cross the town's favorite son. Then Zach MacKenzie moved in across the street and Lea found herself irresistibly drawn to his protective strength and quiet faith. Yet Foley's jealousy built dangerously, threatening Zach's freedom and Lea's safety. And she had to wonder whether their newfound love - and trust in each other - would be enough to save them both.

Small Town Secrets by Sharron Mignerey This is a Love Inspired Suspense. I like mysteries and have just discovered these. The ones I have read so far have been good. This is the first book I have read by this author and I really enjoyed it. There is a lot in here about judgment and also about holding someone's past against them. Lea was a bit wild in her teen days, so when she accuses her ex-husband, Foley, of being a stalker and abusive, no one believes her.. not even her family. No one that is except her new neighbor, Zach. Zach doesn't see Foley through the rose-colored hero glasses that this small town does. He sees behind the facade to a man on the verge of a breakdown. A man who has to possess everything he wants and never takes no for an answer. Zach becomes Lea's self-appointed protector, despite his own problems and his commitment to not get involved romantically. This one has a bit of it all.. romance, intrigue, action... a great read!

Zach MacKenzie, a recovering alcoholic just out of prison for vehicular manslaughter, is determined, with the help of God, to remain sober and not break his parole. The last thing he wants is to be locked up again. The last thing he needs is to fall in love with his neighbor. But kind-hearted Lea Webster is being stalked by her ex-husband, so how can Zach not protect her?

Lea Webster lost her baby and the ability to have any more when her alcoholic husband pushed her down a flight of stairs. That's when she lost her faith. Now her dream is to adopt a child, so there's no future with an ex-con. Still, she's drawn to Zach as she marvels at the peace he derives from his prayers. From him she learns to pray again.

Finding beer cans in his trash planted there by Lea's ex, Zach struggles with temptation and through prayer chooses sobriety. But when her ex becomes violent, Zach has to break parole. Knowing he'll be sent back to prison, he risks everything to save Lea.
