I have recently closed a couple of inactive accounts. I requested two books at different times and both of them have timed out after 5 plus days. When I look back at my archive the member account that had the book is on hold now and the books from that account are not available.

Good for you!  That happens to me every once in a while & it is a good feeling.

Boy, Charles, that is one optimistic attitude you have, considering the delay in trying to get books you want!

But, wouldn't be easier if PBS finally got proactive about weeding out inactive members. It would be incredibly easy to put in some type of parameter - ie if a member has not logged in within the past 6 months, then send an email requesting they log in to keep their account active by XXX date, send a reminder after that date, then, if the member is non responsive put their account on vaction hold until they log in again.

We are now paying customers of this site, is is no longer a 'free club" and it is time for PBS to address an issue that has irritated posters here for years.

Charles, I will happily wait longer to receive a book if it helps weeding out the 'Inactives'.  We need to do all we can because the PBS club is not pro-active enough to close inactive accounts.    I would rather see the number of available books reduced by several thousands, and have that number be real active accounts, than the artificially high (fake) number of available books which includes all the bookshelves which are inactive.

Mistie, I agree but will not hold my breath for PBS to address that issue anytime soon.

I just sent a suggestion to PBS about doing something to weed out inactive members. I will post any reply I get. I'm not holding my breath LOL
