Good writing and a compelling story, but I think you'll enjoy it more than I did if you start at the beginning of the series. Obviously you can follow the love story within this book as a stand alone, but to understand how all the pieces of the bigger puzzle fit together it looks like you want Murder in the Smokies (1428) and Smoky Mountain MIst (1432).
