Hey guys. I picked up soap making for fun. What do you think of these?

Scott, club rules state that only books may be swapped for credits. Also, you might want to be aware of this (from the Help Center):
Can I use the club for advertising or to sell anything?Absolutely not. Doing so constitutes commercial use of the site and violates the Terms of Use.No advertising is allowed on the site.No advertising of any kind may appear anywhere on the site, including but not limited to Personal Messages, Discussion Forum posts, public profiles, forum sigs, book reviews, Eclectic Pen submissions, Book Wiki and Book Tags. No advertising may be included with any PaperBackSwap mailiings. PBS member addresses may not be used for mailings of any kind without the consent of the receiver. No selling is allowed on the site. The club is designed to swap books for credits. No items of any kind may be offered for sale on the site, not for money or any other compensation, with the exception of Book Credits, which may be sold between members.

Yes, you may only swap books for credits. However, I think you can include a freebie soap with a book deal. |

Thanks for letting me know, Lesley. You might want to be aware that there is a post with 56 replies in the Crafting forum where people are advertising their Etsy stores. Thanks for the idea, Eve. If I did that, I would probably go broke since it does cost me money to make them. :P |

I am aware of that thread, as I have posted in it myself. The difference is that that is a discussion thread about the Etsy site, which is relevant to crafters. It is not in itself a blatant advertisement and no one is trying to sell their Etsy products in that thread on this site. |

Everyone is trying to sell their Etsy products in that thread. Why do you think they are posting links to their stores? Last Edited on: 6/21/10 12:39 PM ET - Total times edited: 1 |

Again, it is a discussion thread about selling on Etsy. Posting links to the shops was relevant to the discussion. No one posted their items in their thread posts, only links to their shops, in the context of the discussion. You seem offended. I assure you that I was only trying to help you so that you don't get into trouble for violating PBS' TOU. I have seen people have their posts/threads removed for the same thing. |

So if I make a post asking if people sell any homemade products and then proceed to list mine, that would be okay because it lends to the discussion? |

That depends on the context. This forum is about crafting, so if it lends to the topic of the crafting of products, rather than selling or trading them, then I would think that would be fine. To be certain, you might want to contact a Tour Guide and ask. |

"Thanks for the idea, Eve. If I did that, I would probably go broke since it does cost me money to make them. :P" I guess I don't see what the difference is in asking out right for a credit for the soaps and including it with a book. The postage for including a paperback would probably be about 30 cents more. The shipping doesn't go up a whole lot for a few ounces more. That's why people do book deals or try to ship multiple books bundled together. When you send out 3 books together, you don't pay the full shipping rate as for the 3 books separately. |

That's true Eve, although if Scott were to send soap with any of his books, he would have to send them first class, as the soap would make the package ineligible for media mail. Depending on the weight, postage could end up more than sending multiple books via media mail. |

He would have had to send the soaps 1st class anyway when he was hoping to trade them for a straight credit. I don't know how much more 6 oz (for a mass market paperback) are added onto to 1st class, though. For Media Mail it's only about an extra 30 cents. |

The soap is not free to make. Each bar that is given away (for free with a book) is a loss of money for me. |
