This book is funny, cute and alot like Stephanie plum. I enjoyed the whole "vampire" scene and the Damned Dog was hilarious. I enjoyed the fun, wit and the whole outlandousness of it all.
The second one, Dirty laundry is even better.
Good fun chick lit mystery.

I picked this up because it was marketed as similar to the Stephanie Plum series, which I love. It was kind of a ripoff of the Plum series and my Big Fat Greek Wedding, only without the humor. I couldn't get into this at all. I got about 100 pages in before I gave up. The characters were all one dimensional stereotypes. I'd pass on this one...

A cross between My Big, Fat, Greek Wedding and Stephanie Plum. A nice look at the Greek community in Astoria NY.

Why such weak reviews? It was a well done book, and a great way to pass some time drinking tea and escaping. Yes there were some similarities to Janet E.s Stephanie Plum series, but I liked it cause it was less wacky, and had more heart. As for the mystery, I was just a clueless as our main character, as to what was going on, and when it all came together, I was happy with the results.

Tori Carrington is actually the pen name of a Husband and wife team who write many, many romance novels, you know the kind. Different cover, different state, different job, different hair, and eye color but the same old romance story. They have continued to write these romances even after they have written this series. Having said that, I think that they have real talent as writers, because this isnt a romance with a few guns and dead bodies thrown in. This is the beginning of a new relationship with a great group of people of Astoria, NY and their Greek community.

This book can stand on its own, it isnt a rip off of Stephanie Plum. In fact Sophie even likes to read Janet E.s books. She also liked to drink Nescafe Frappes, hence the coffee cup on the front cover. There is a recipe for the Frappe at the back of the book, and two other recipes.

If you enjoy Janet Evanovich's books, then consider Sofie to be the Greek Stephanie Plum.

In this first book of the series, we meet Sofie, her family, and her madcap neighbors, and follow her through various foibles as she tries to reinvent herself as a private detective. She's fun and she's tough, and she takes no guff from anyone (especially her "almost" husband, whom she caught "boinking" the maid of honor in the church on her wedding day)!

I can't wait to get my hands on the next book in the series ... I have a feeling Sofie is going to be a "keeper".

A great read for Stephanie Plum fans! A mixture of her and "My Big Fat Greek Wedding!"

Book had an interesting premise and I liked the greek family dynamics. As the first book in the series, it did not pull me in as much as I would have thought. I would read book 2, but am not rushing to order the rest of the books until I see if book 2 is better.

If you like Stephanie Plum, and if you liked My Big Fat Greek Wedding, you'll like Sofie Metropolis. She is a young Greek-American woman living in Astoria, NY, working as a sometimes P.I. for her Uncle Kosmos' Detective Agency. The book has a lot of humorous Greek cultural references, which is why I wanted to read it. The plot is a little vague and far-fetched. Sofie was jilted at the altar by her two timing Greek fiancee, who was caught in flagrante delicto in the church with the maid of honor. Oopsies...not a good thing for a Greek bride. While there are some truly funny observations, the book fails to deliver on a riveting plot. It took me a long time to finish the book, because it just didn't really hold my interest too steadily.

Cute story about a woman who decides to become a PI instead of getting married, like her Greek family thinks.

After ditching her cheating fiancé and going on her honeymoon alone, Sofie goes to work for her uncle's detective agency. Her assignments include following a cheating wife, investigating a vampirish neighbor, and finding a nasty mutt. Anna Fields's naturally low-pitched voice is perfect for conveying Sofie's feistiness and self-deprecating humor and morphs well into the denizens of her mostly Greek neighborhood, as well as the Aussie man she craves. Most notable are the guttural tones employed for her well-meaning but clueless mother. Sofie's habit of conversational asides to herself adds to the listener's enjoyment. When the action picks up, so does the pace.

Pretty clunky writing. I couldn't get more than 25% through it. It's definitely the unholy lovechild My Big Fat Greek Wedding and Inspector Cluseau.

Sofie Metropolis should be married. But when she caught her groom and her maid of honor carrying on with each other in the church, Sofie canceled the wedding. She took the honeymoon by herself, and she kept all the presents, including a small apartment building filled with just the sort of quirky tenants you'd expect in an old Queens neighborhood like Astoria.

Sofie should be waiting tables -- her father and grandfather have competing restaurants on opposite corners. Instead, she's a junior -- very junior -- private investigator at her Uncle Spyros's detective agency. Which means she finds missing pets and takes photos of people's spouses doing things they shouldn't.

Sofie's life takes another unexpected turn when her latest cheating spouse case turns into attempted murder -- of Sofie -- and she's rescued by a dashing Australian bounty hunter. And there's a missing "vampire" to find, not to mention Sofie's mother's best friend's lost dog ...
