I found this while going through my GrandMother's belongings after her death. I'm not a huge fan of poetry and I'm definitely not a huge fan of "preachy" religious materials.
This isn't preachy. I knew before starting it that the poems are about God, etc. but I didn't feel preached to once.
I do have to say, and please keep in mind I know next to nothing about poetry, that the poems, for the most part, seemed very juvenile. They seemed the type a young person would write on a whim. Short, always rhyming, etc. That's not to say they're bad - that's actually the only sort of poem I actually like. But it does need to be mentioned IMO.
Another thing is that a lot of the poems are lumped together by subject. I didn't notice this right away so I'm not sure if it's like that the entire time and I didn't notice or if it started later on. A few poems in order will be about Heaven or daily giving, or forgiveness. But because of the type of poem (i.e., almost 'childish') this felt very redundant. A lot of the same words were used when a little bit of vocab switching would have really helped.
One more thing that very much bothered me - the capitol letters. Many words were in all caps and I don't mean 'God' or 'He'. I mean like this, 'DAILY LIVING', 'FORGIVE YOUR NEIGHBOR' or 'JUST LIKE HIM'. That's useless IMO and it took away from the poems very much in my case. I saw no, absolutely no, reason for it whatsoever.
But in the end, it's a decent collection of poems if you like this sort of poetry. I don't know which edition I have because I see no ISBN. It's a padded hardback and it came in a gold case. I'll be keeping it to possibly reread at some point and share with my daughter as she gets older.
