I think this is an obscure, not very popular book so I'm not holding my breath, but I thought I'd throw it out there.   I've thrown it up as a question on whatsthatbook.com and other places, but so far no luck.  I've searched on allreader.com too.

The beginning of the book: A young boy is seen by a female therapist or psychiatrist in her office.   He is acting out and uses foul language. He possibly acts older than he is, making sexual remarks to her. I recall that the language was graphic. He is possibly evil?

The started reading the book approximately 1982 and it seem old/outdated to me then -- thus the guess about publication date. The book wasn't very thick, maybe 100-150 pages tops, paperback; had a pinkish/brown color.

I don't know the whole plot because I lost the book when my backpack was taken from me in a mugging. Many years later and I still think about it and have always searched for it. It haunts me in a weird way.

My mother was an undiscriminating bibliophile/hoarder, she bought books by the box at garage and estate sales and I practically grew up in a library. Every wall of of house was floor to ceiling bookshelves, so I had a wealth of titles to choose from, which is a good thing because I turned out to be bookworm. This was one of those so I haven't the first clue about its origins.

It's been suggested to me that Equus and The Manticore might be possibilties, but I don't think so.  Even so I've just requested them from members here, just in case.

Any and all suggestions are welcome, no matter how remote!

This might be a long shot, but just maybe:

I remember reading this around the same time frame that you mentioned.  I never finished it because Mom took it away from me; I was an advanced reader.   I remember the early plot line was about a disturbed boy.

@Nancy -  I got (and read) Little Boy Lost from here -- but alas it's not it.  However thanks to your suggestion, I've had a bit of a breakthrough.   When I got the book I looked at the spine and it said "Playboy Paperbacks" -- and all the sudden I am 90% sure that the book I am seeking was published my Playboy Paberbacks - they produced 99% schlock.     wink      I think I was keeping the book hidden in my backpack because I thought my parents might get the wrong idea since it said "Playboy Paperbacks"   ooohh.. playboy!   Hey, I was in the 7th grade, ya know?

I've checked Amazon, Bilblofind and Abebooks  - all of which let you search by publisher; but a lot of sellers don't give even a one-sentence synopsis, so now I just have to figure out how to find the book without buying 100's of cheezy 70's/early 80's books.
