I always enter my books to be posted through the SEARCH box feature at the top and to the right of the page.  I enter the ISBN.  In the past when I did this, I'd click on the enter key and the information would come up and I'd then put the books on my RL so I could check to see how many were in the system in order to know if it was worth posting.  Now when I do that I have to move the cursor/mouse over the word SEARCH to enter the books.

Is this something new or did I mess up my screen somehow and if I did does anyone know how I can get it back so I only have to use the ENTER key?

Also When I start to enter the ISBN at the Search Box after about the third number typed in a small box comes up with books that either have the start of that ISBN or those three numbers somewhere in the info on a book (not the book I'm entering).  Example:  If I type in 978 - it will bring up a small box that shows books that start with the 978 ISBN or sometimes it will reference something on page 978 of a particular book or the year 978, etc.  None of this information is relevant to the book I'm trying to post.

I don't like it.......

HELP!!!!!!  Pat

I've noticed that I can't use the Enter key anymore ... for several days now. (At first I thought the pages were frozen, before I figured it out).

I've seen that funny pop-up too, when you search. Its actually nice for some things ... like if you put in part of the name of an author, you can then go select from the list, the exact spelling. It is kind of annoying with numbers, though.

I don't know if they have finished these changes, or if there is more coming ... kind of feels unfinished, though, doesn't it?

I just entered an ISBN in the search field at the top right of the screen and when done pressed the enter key - it came to the description page.

Yes I now get a drop down when I start to enter the isbn number.   I never really used the search field so I am not sure.  I did notice in book browser and maybe it was always there that if you type the name of the author and the spelling was wrong at the top middle a link appears did you mean......   I think that is new.

The Enter key works when you are searching from some pages, but not from others. I haven't figured out which is which yet.

jubead, I'd be really curious to see if you can always hit the enter key ... do a search that brings up the pop-up box, then click on one of the choices from the pop-up box, (this will fill in the search field) and then hit "Enter" instead of clicking on the "Search" button.

That is one of the things I have done, where the Enter key doesn't work anymore.

It is something new:

From the August Newswire:

We know your innermost thoughts.   We can prove it.  As you type into the Search box, the system will make suggestions based on what you have typed, so all you have to do is click the suggestion in the dropdown box to choose it instead of finishing typing the terms into the Search.  Talk about service!  This oughta save a billionth of a joule in exertion.  Hey, when it's this hot outside, every billionth matters!

Yes, but now you have to spend that  billionth of a joule going back to the mouse to click on "Search" where before you could just type and hit Enter!!!

Sarah - this is what I figured out.  I typed in 978 and there is a drop down - but the ISBN is not listed on the drop down so I continued and pressed the enter key.

then I started with 978 and decided to choose one of the items from the dropdown (where this information is being pulled is a guess) I pressed the enter key and it didn't work.  if i placed the cursor in the field and pressed the enter key -it worked.  So when you select the one of the drop down selections it does not keep the search box active.  Does that make sense?

Yeah, that's the same as when I was using it. I have also noticed, though, that for some searches (not using the pop-ups) the Enter key still works and for some it doesn't (have to click on "Search"). Haven't discerned the difference yet.

It is interesting - but the drop down - where is this information pulled?  I means nothing to me  - never searched for the books  listed and there isn't that many to select from when it does drop down.

If that drop down menu popped up with the book I was entering it would be helpful, but the way it is now, it's not helpful, and I want my ENTER key back.  Having to use my mouse to go to the SEARCH key slows me down.  Pat

I think it is the overall most popular things that you might want to search for from the string it knows. Probably from all PBS searches. It does not appear to be personalized to your particular use at all.

I'm not loving that new drop down menu with the Search.  It takes up time to deal with it and it most likely is never going to be right - especially with numbers beginning with 978.  There are just too many 978 numbers.  Features are one thing, playing with the programming is another.  Just call me a "stick in the mud!"

Glad I'm not the only one who doesn't like it, and to date haven't found it helpful at all.  :(  Pat

Personally, I love it.  The Enter key works fine for me.  I'm using Firefox.  I just type what I want and hit enter.  The search happens!  Or I can start typing, see what I was looking for, use the down arrow to select it and then hit enter.  Goes right to what I picked.   It helps if I can't remember exactly how to spell the author's name or something - the first name and a couple letters is enough for it to narrow the options and I can pick what I'm looking for.

It's never going to work for ISBNs because they begin so similarly, but you don't have to pick one of the suggestions.  Just keep typing your number and hit enter or click Search just like you used to.
