Has anyone read the Somnambulist by Jonathan Barnes?  I really love mysteries (fiction & non fiction) set in Victorian times and this looked interesting but it has mixed reviews.  So if anyone's read it, is it worth the time?

I hope so,  it's on its way to me!

Someone has read it....

I read an ARC of the Somnambulist. I didn't like it. It kept me interested enough that I felt like I had to finish it, but in the end I found it confusing and disappointing. I was holding off responding to this because I find that if someone tells me they didn't like a book, it's harder for me to be open to enjoying it. Even though I am also a fan of mysteries and any story set in Victorian times it just wasn't my cup of tea.

Well, I probably still give it a try.  This is one of those books where, if you've seen the 'Reading in Bookstores' thread in CMT, I'm the person who'll make myself at home in the store to dip into the first few chapters and see if I like it.

How's the Suspicions of Mr. Whicher so far? I picked up that ARC at the same time I grabbed The Somnambulist but I haven't started it yet.

Lauren, Suspicions of Mr Whicher is really good so far, definitely a good historical true crime,  very readable. I'm tempted to skip to the end just to know who the killer is!
