OK so normally I don't post any books I'm not ready to send to  my Bookshelf and put them on hold. But I go on vacation hold a lot to control postage costs.

Anyway-I just sorted my bookshelf by WL to see if any were WL before I come of vacation hold.  (I have posted some I haven't read yet because I am on vacation hold and wanted to hold any that went WL since I went on vacation).   How does is sort the rest of the books?  I would think it would put them in order of lowest # posted to highest since hte ones on top are the WL ones.  But it seems to just put the in any ole random order.  I know it's random because I put various ones on my RL in the order they appear on my books shelf in this sort-and it they didn't go lowest to highest but were all over the place.

Is this  glitch with my shelf? Or does it just not sort them beyone putting any WL ones on top? I was going to hold any that just had a couple of copies posted that I hadn't read yet. I don't mind if they go to the end of a short line since I still need to read them.  But I wanted to come off vacation for awhile.

I don't know how it sorts them for sure, but the information it keeps for wish list and those for available copies are different so they will have nothing to do with one another (apples and oranges).   So whatever information is considered the secondary sorting information will sort them after that, this could be anything from by ISBN number, date you posted the books, or simply the order they were last in when that PHP was accessed.

I don't know about the bookshelf, but on the TBR pile, if you sort by Wish List, from what I can tell, the order of both the Wish Listed books and the rest of the books are random. And more than that, the order changes if you reload the page.

Well I was playing with it again last night and noticed that it will only put the W for a WL book and put a WL book at the top with a WL sort-if the book is on individual hold.  My account is on vacation hold.  One book that wasn't on individual bookshelf hold was WL but had no W by it and was just randomly placed on my shelf when I did a WL sort.  As soon as I put it on individual hold, it had the W and was put up top.

i tried to sort by wishlist hold too. Mine ranomizes the "W" and the "WA" books, sometimes books without a "W" are between the Wishlisted ones.  Otherwise the rest seem to be random though :(.

I'm trying to read the auto request ones first and it makes it difficult when i still have to scroll through the whole wishlist :(

I think what happens when there are some without a W in the middle of the wish listed ones is this: the sorting that you request is not done on-the-fly at the time you ask for it. I think it periodically does the sorting and saves it, then when you ask to see a particular sort, it shows you its saved list. For the sort by wish list, that means that sometimes a book goes from being wishlisted to not being wishlisted between the time that the sorting was done and the time that you asked to see it. I also sometimes see W's in among the non-wishlisted ones for the same reason (but opposite).

I hate it when my TBR list does this!  I have it set for WL first, and when I'm scrolling through my list looking for books I want to use in swap games, I'll find that after about two pages of scrolling, if I click on a book title and then go back, I'll start seeing some of the same titles again.  It's very frustrating when all you want to do is scroll through your entire list.  I sometimes have to go through them 2 or 3 times to make sure I didn't miss something I may want to use, and even then I'll still miss things sometimes because of the random order changes.

I don't do the Availability or WL sort on my TBR or RL anymore because of that.  I always sort by author now.  Generally when I have 1 WL book by an author, I have others WL by them as well.  Or I'm in a certain genre mood and can look up authors of that genre and see what's WL.  When looking to remove books or just scrolling to see what you have listed,  it's much easier to sort by title or author.  Then you don't get the repetition.  But I read according to mood mostly and with no regard for the WL.

I always have to remember to be careful when I'm sorting by author. If the author is missing on a given book entry, then that book isn't listed at all in the author sort! So annoying! I wish they would put all of the ones with no author together at the beginning or end of the list.

if I click on a book title and then go back, I'll start seeing some of the same titles again

I hate this, too. I always have to try and remember to open up any books in a separate window or tab in my browser to avoid this issue. It is very annoying when I forget!
