This book gives the history of the expedition without the details of the diaries from the crew members. I am a member of a book club that discussed this book, and those that had the book with the crew member's diaries described events that were way too sad for me to handle. I am glad I chose this edition.

This book chronicles Shackleton's final Antartic expedition, and describes how he and the crew lived drifitng on an ice floe for five months before finally making the arduous journey to the nearest land in the three surviving lifeboats.
