This book is filled with layers, and as you read, the layers slowly peel back to reveal a wonderfully crafted family story.

Each of the chapters is told from a different character's point of view. I love this because you really get to see the whole story, not just one characters take on it.

Holli, the main character, tells her story from an adult point of view and Hollyanne, her childhood self, tells her story as she is growing up. This was a wonderful way to bring the past into the present story, as it played such an important role. Also, Hollyanne's chapters were so vividly written I found my heart breaking for her.

Jean Reynolds Page has also introduced an innovative new idea by providing a soundtrack for The Space Between Before and After. She has put together songs that either reflected, or helped shape, the characters in the book. You can read about Page's reasons for each of the songs on her website and can even purchase the entire soundtrack.

I love the soundtrack and enjoyed the additional insights into the characters. Music plays such an important part in people's lives that it is only fitting that characters have "their" songs too!

New author for me and I loved her. The Space Between Before ans After is a very thought out novel. It has left me with much to digest. There is alot going on in this novel, but not any one experience run into the ground. This is a very "smooth" read. I had a hard time putting it down. There is Grandma who may or may not be loosing touch with this world, there is son and ill girlfriend, there is divorced mom and dad who may or may not be getting back together after sons experiences. There is mom and step mom feelings to work out and mom and father feelings to work out and more (I don't want to ruin the plot}, but all just flows together wonderfully. It is not to be dismissed as just another novel of fluff. This is worth your time.

Initially, I was not enthralled by the storyline. Not one to give up on a book early, I stuck with it and found myself fully invested in each of the characters to the point of being sad when I finished the last page!
Life can be messy, family relationships are affected by our past and present, and Jean Reynolds Page did an excellent job of giving the reader an honest look at how through it all, we can grow.

I enjoyed this book. I really enjoyed the flashbacks, and actually enjoyed the past story more than the present storyline! I liked the development of the individual characters, and the book flowed nicely.
