Must-have for anyone with a serious interest in the Second World War
Full title "Spandau, The Secret Diaries" by Albert Speep, the author of "Inside the Third Reich".
Out of the rubble of the Third Reich Albert Speer recalls: Hitler's Maniacal Fantasy and describes how he used his confinement to write a biography of Hitler,a description of the final phase of the war and his day of departure from prison.
Spandau (The Secret Diaries)
If you've read "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich" or "The Nightmare Years" by William Shirer (I highly recommend both) then this book gives a solid background on the one man truly responsible for enabling the NAZI War machine to do what it had done for so many years. In the beginning Speer was the architect for Hitler's vision of the Berlin to come, but as the war progressed Speer became the architect of the war factories, ensuring a constant supply of war goods in an ever increasingly destroyed homeland. He became a Genius in the administration of the war materials until the bitter end.
This is his story and is well worth reading to understand the depths that a person who was so enthralled with the Fuhrer that he would overcome any obstacle to please him.
It also gives insight into some of the high level henchmen that also worked to further the NAZI goals of domination.
Dates, places, who did what, who helped, who hindered, etc.
For War history this is 'foundation' work.
