Does anyone know if there is a way to specify certian covers of books? Such as I have ordered 2 different books, but gotten older copies (which usually isn't a big deal to me) but really want the newer cover art, so my collection from this author "matches". I'm just gonna re-swap the older versions but want to re-request the books to put the ones I want on my keeper shelf....is there a way to do this? And when I ask, I really mean, is there a way to do this that is not a huge pain and inconvience to the people I am requesting these books from. :)

About the only way is to set up a Requestor Condition stating such, since PBS specifically states in their book posting guidelines that covers do NOT have to match.

I had someone request a specific cover using a Requestor Condition.  The condition stated that the particular ISBN they ordered had several different covers.  In their RC they gave a link to the cover that they were looking for.  My version of the book didn't have that particular cover, so I had to turn it down.  But, it was an effective way of using the RC to tell what they wanted.

When you use a RC for one specific book, the RC needs to be on when you accept the book.  You can then turn off the RC.  If the book is WL, then have that book on 48 hour offer, turn on the RC after getting the PM about the book, then accept the book, then turn off the RC.

A RC is really the best way to get the right version.

Does this apply when there is no picture of the cover? I would presume so. I have sent MMPBs with different covers than shown, BUT - have the requested ISBN. Is that OK?

So if you change your RC after you request a book/accept a WL offer - but before the sender accepts or prints, they'll still see your original RC?

Margaretann: cover pictures do NOT have to match.  So unless they have an RC asking for a specific cover picture then you don't have to do anything but make sure the book is postable and that ISBN, binding, author and title match.   Doesn't matter if PBS has a picture listed or not.

You could also try requesting it in the bazaar if it's a common book.  Just send a link to a picture of the cover you'd like.

NO. They see the RC as it was when you ordered the book.

The RC is what is in place at the moment you accept the book.  (Which would be the moment you order for non WL Books)  Changing it before it is printed does not change the RC.  You can go to your credit registry to see the RC.  So you can make a specific RC for one book only, then switch to none or your standard one.

Beth,

I've used an RC before for this very same situation and it's worked quite well for me.  That's the way I would go.  :)
