I was at a friends house the other day and she had the best spelling book for homeschooling. She said she knew it was part of a larger curriculum that was secular in nature. Each lesson started with a story then went on to the spelling words. Any ideas?

P.S. I'm a homeschooling mama with ZERO credits, so please check out my bookshelf!

Spell to Write and Read by Wanda Sanseri.  It starts with learning the phonograms, so that you can learn to decode words.  It is teacher intensive to learn, but in the month that we've been using it, i am already seeing improvement in my 11 yo great reader/terrible speller and my 9 yo hates to read/ poor speller.

There is a yahoo group that has tons of info and advice and the author participates in the discussions.  I wish I had known about this 6 years ago.  It would have saved us a lot of frustration and grief.
