Spire
Author: William Golding
The vision that drives Dean Jocelin to construct an immense new spire above his cathedral tests the limits of all who surround him. The foundationless stone pillars shriek and the earth beneath them heaves under the structure’s weight as the Dean’s will weighs down his collapsing faith.

A classic tale, full of symbolism, written by the author of "Lord of the Flies" which became kind of a cult book. Golding was British and achieved much fame in the US after the publication of "...Flies". His use of words is astonishingly brilliant. The first page pulls the reader into a sunlit cathedral so bright you can hear it crackle.
