I just received a book from someone in a state I've never transacted with. I didn't order this book. I've never had a transaction with the sender. I don't play games, nor do I box (all the suggestions from the help files....)

How do I handle this?

....Or can I (I have the senders address on the wrapper, but no email since I have no transaction.....)

You can try and look them up in the Member Directory under the Community drop down menu :)

You can try and PM them that way

Did they use the printed wrapper? There is a transaction ID there that can help TPTB track it down for you.

Sounds like someone got their packages confused and mis-wrapped them.

I bet that's what happened.

Did you spend a credit ? Or does this seem totally random?

Do you have an active order from someone in the same state as the return address? Or one that was Lost in the Mail on your Transaction Archive?

It says in the OP that she does not have an order coming from that state.

It is a stumper.  I would contact PBS and give them the order ID # if you have it on the wrapper and ask them if they know what this is about.

Do you have any friends or relatives on PBS that might have ordered the book and had it sent to you as a surprise?

This was my first thought.

Is it a PBS wrapper or does it contain a packing slip from PBS? If it is, then you've had a transaction with them since there would be no other way to get the wrapper or packing slip. You can look in your Credit Registry or Transction Archive to see if the book/sender shows up there. You can send the transction ID to the Team through the Contact Us link in the lower right or, if that's not on the wrapper, the book title and the senders information.

If it is not a PBS wrapper, then I would look at other places you might have ordered the book from like and Amazon or eBay reseller.

eta: if someone else requested it and had it mailed to you, the verbage on the packing slip would be different, telling you who ordered it for you so you can let them know you received it.

Is it a WL book?  Could you have added it accidentally at some point and had it on autorequest? I know sometimes I come on and don't notice a WL book until it's already enroute to me.

No one on this site would have your address unless you had some type of transaction with them.

That's a possibility. Not a WL book. No packing slip, and yes PBS wrapper.

Merry Christmas to me, I guess!

um....ok, i'm an idiot (and on the dark side of middle age......so the visual acuity is not what it should be......)

I saw "ID", and thought Idaho.....no transaction from Idaho, and an unordered book.....

Well, ID was the "request ID".....book was actually from PA (and still not what I ordered), so I followed the help docs and emailed him.

As Emily from SNL would have said...."nevermind......."

My next thought would have been that someone sent you a RAOK (random act of kindness) which is another forum here.  Some RAOK gifters will remember you if they've sent  to you or rec'd something from you before, and they will "gift" you with something they thought you would like--- maybe a similar book, a similar author.  Or could a "friend" here at PBS have shared a favorite of theirs with you????

The other thing to consider would be if you are on multiple book trading websites. I recently got a book via another site, and on the outside of the package they had printed and taped on that little square that says something like, "This book was sent to you by so and so on PaperbackSwap.com, please log in and mark the book received."

I was a little confused since I didn't have any books enroute from PBS. But then I figured out it was from another site, I don't know why they would reuse that part of a PBS label, or at least not change it to indicate the right site.

Sounds like you handled the situation right by contacting the sender. The sender likely mixed up book orders. Don't mark the book received as it is not what you ordered.
