Split Infinity is the first book in Piers Anthony's Apprentice Adept series. Here two worlds exist side by side: Proton and Phaze. Proton is a science fiction world, where everything works in a logical and scientific manner. Phaze is a fantasy world similar to Anthony's Xanth in that there's no such thing as science--it's all done with magic! The wild plot involves a young adventurer named Stiles who lives in Proton and learns that his "double" in Phaze has been murdered. To solve his own demise, Stiles must travel between the two realities, each abounding with the expected confusions and unexpected plot twists for which Anthony is famous. An artful blending of SF and fantasy clichés and situations, Split Infinity shows Piers Anthony at the top of his ingenious game(s). -

This is a wonderful series of books. I could not put them down. Anyone interested in SciFi and/or unicorns, will become totally engrossed in this series.

This is the only Piers Anthony book I've ever read, and because of it, I will never pick up another one of his books. It's either intentionally or unintentionally misogynistic, and I'm not one to throw that term around lightly. Out of the three main female characters, one is a unicorn who can shift into MUTE human female form, one is a robot programmed to protect the protagonist and meet his EVERY need and one is a plain human female. Guess which one the protagonist doesn't have sex with and doesn't seem to like very much? Yep, the human female. I threw the book across the room after I finished it and wished I hadn't wasted the time on it.

The combination and relevance of both sci-fi world and fantasy world had been excellently written and the style of magic that Piers Anthony penned in this book was clearly unique.

Piers Anthony provides many interesting characters, including a compassionate hero, a beautiful robot dedicated to advancing civil rights for robots, a dashing werewolf prince questioning his peoples violent society, and an eloquent unicorn who speaks with music rather than words.

I found the book interesting on many levels, and entertaining to boot. I have picked up the other two book to read in the series and find them just as good.
