I keep forgetting to ask, just happened to think of them this minute - does anyone know what these square romance books are all about? I was really surprised to see them on the shelves at Wal-Mart. they're kind of cool-looking but I wonder how comfortable they'd be to hold to read for any length of time.

Are they being sold elsewhere, like B&N? Not sure if I'd buy one or not.

I've been to Target and Kmart recently and not seen any square paperbacks there.  I don't go to Walmart at all so I haven't seen them.

I wonder if it's a WM thing.

That wouldn't surprise me.  Isn't Walmart the #1 seller of books these days?

I seen these at our local Walmart just last week. They look so weird.

They are strange-looking. First it was those taller paperbacks that don't fit well in many bookcases geared to traditional paperbacks, and now these square ones. They're just a modified format to books that are out in mm version. If I had to choose which version to buy, it would be the regular one.

I work at Walmart (oddly enough, I'm over the book dept-and stationery and sporting goods:lol:) and there is no particular reason for them as far as I can tell other than an extra $1 in price.   I purchased a couple of books in that format only because they were out on the shelf 2 weeks before the MMPB version of the same titles.   Also, I did notice that the ISBN wasn't listed on either Amazon or PBS.  I believe someone did add it in here eventually though.   Walmarts books come from a company called Anderson and they have reps that come in and set and fill most of the books in all the stores a couple of times a week, as well as taking care of some of the movie and music sets.

Size and comfortwise I liked them better than tradesized or that weird tall mmpb.  Still an odd size and sort of a hybrid between those two.

I think they are large print books
