It's a good book to teach young children how to play the piano IMMEDIATELY without teaching them how to read music. The child learns how to play the piano keys using a fingering guide so they can experience the satisfaction of playing a song without having to learn note reading first. As they learn how to play the songs, they are taught note values, rests, key names, notes, and other piano theory. My very impatient 4-year old was able to satisfy her need to play a real song right away. She loved this book so much that even when her lesson was over, she would keep learning the other songs on her own. She quickly learned how to play all 23 songs in this book and was ready for formal piano lessons before her fifth birthday (and she is NOT musically gifted - she's just a wanna-be :-)
