A bear finds a note in the woods and treasure it, even though he can't read. A woman moves into the cabin and reads outside every day. Slowly, the bear comes closer and closer to listen to her read. All summer long, they enjoy books. But winter approaches and the woman leaves. She leaves all the books for the bear who carries them one by one to his cave.

Why I recommend it: While the idea of a child approaching a wild creature isn't good, this is clearly a fantasy book. Bear is inquisitive and the story of a bear being entranced by a soft voice is wonderful.
