In 1736, John Wesley, a young Oxford graduate, set sail with his brother Charles for a Georgia colon in America, just 3 yrs. after it was founded by James Oglethorpe, as minister to that strange group of debtors, ex-prisoners, and characters both savory and unsavory.All of his struggles and spiritual turmoil are meticulously recorded in his Georgia Diary, which he kept in a code so difficult to decipher that it was broken only in the 1900's. His unusual story gives a different view of the man who strongly influenced the course of Christian worship.
