She has 800 year old books from his family that her father was asked to take care of during the war. He thinks her father stole them and he wants them back to sell to regain his status in English society. He pretends to be an English tourist and she doesn't have a clue about him except that she fantasizes him as "a knight in shining armor". When she discovers his reason for all the attention to her, she chains him naked in her barn and goes off the deep end. It's a ridiculous scene.
