I learned all kinds of interesting things, like what an octothorp is (it's not in the index, you'll have to read the book). Their source of information is reference librarians, they don't seem to do any original research themselves. For instance, on the question above about when married couples were shown in bed, they made reference to at least 4, without dates, and then came to their conclusion based on (maybe) who was most authoritative. I'd think that someone would do the original research such as "On March 2, 1949, x couple was shown", which might automatically exclude some show that first aired in, say, 1952.
