Quite possibly the best in Denise Hamilton's Eve Diamond series. Great insight into the Hispanic community in LA.
Excellent mystery / thriller. Reporter Eve Diamond tries to find the killer of a young Hollywood girl.
Denise Hamilton takes you on an extraordinary ride through Los Angeles from its seamy underside to the opulent estates, into the territory of WASPs and yuppies and on east to the teaming streets of the Latinos. It is evident that Hamilton knows these streets well and she can turn a phrase equally as well. For this trip alone 'Sugar Skulls' is worth your time. Hamilton has also created an astute and gritty protagonist in Eve Diamond the LA Times investigative reporter we first met in 'Jasmine Trade'and her story which ties together three unrelated deaths that occur in the one weekend is suspenseful and compelling.(Amazon.com review)
Great read, couldn't put it down.
LA Times reporter Eve Diamond delves into the story of teens exploring Hollywood's underworld of street people and drug users. A girl's death leads her not only to a high-society mayoral campaign but also to a new form of Mexican music--and perhaps a new love.
Set in Los Angeles, this book touches on cultural issues of modern LA as well as being a good suspenseful mystery.
Good reading.
When a distraught father breaks past security to beg for her help, LA Times reporter Eve Diamond can't refuse. Why is a priveledged teen hooked up with the dregs of Hollywood? When the girl is found dead, Eve sispects there is more going on than the tragic death os a rebellious teen.
The book was somewhat better than good, but I really liked the character.
