I have an 8 yr old who loves Harry Potter and Star Wars. I am looking for some series that are easy to read , he gets over whelmed with too many  chapters. He has read Magic Tree House and Black Lagoon Adventures. Any suggestions?

When my son was 8 yrs old (he is 9 now) his favorite three books he read that year were The Trumpet of the Swan by E.B. White; The Sign of the Beaver by Elizabeth George Speare; and My Side of the Mountain by Jean Craighead George.

I have sons, ages 9 and 7.   They love Ricky Ricotta, Captain Underpants, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Melvin Beederman, My Weird School series by Dan Gutman, the Geronimo Stilton series, and he read the Frannie K. Stein series (four).

Hope this helps.

Betsy

Oh, and he liked Stink Moody, too.

someone suggested this series by Lloyd Alexander for me(I didnt 'realzie they were kid's books!) they're in my TBR but the Black Cauldron movie they said was based on the series. It starts with The Book of Three and I think there are 5 - Pyrridain? I think is the series name of the series.

my brother never liked to read much but he enjoyed the 'choose your own adventures' books..he had several when he was younger.

The Lloyd Alexander are too old. I recommend the Droon series. It's perfect, as well as the Young Jack Sparrow if he likes pirates. Both series are thin chapter books. I am trying to remember. There was another author B loved at that age, very epic quest and exciting. Oh, yes. Emily rodda has a series of series in Deltorra. Again thin chapter books. Robin's Country by Monic Furlong (mute boy is discovered by Robin Hood). he will love this one.

I also want to recommend some picture books. Graeme Base, Colin Thompson. Even though they are picture books, they are really for an older child. Actually, I love them myself.

How about the Encyclopedia Brown books?  I loved those as a kid.  My husband enjoyed the "Choose Your Own Adventure" books growing up.

Seems like he'd like "A to Z Mysteries"
