I was happy to find an early book by one of my favorite authors. This has a taste of the complexity she employs in her writing today, without being too intense. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Raine Smith has separated herself from her family, from feelings of inferiority and abandonment, and has concentrated soley on horses and competing. She is preparing for the final ride of her competitive career in the Olympics, when she is tackled from behind. Cord Elliot is supervising the security for the event, and is tracking a suspicious looking woman. When she reaches into her backpack, he has the idea she may be trying to plant a bomb. But, the explosion he is trying to prevent doesn't compare to the shock of meeting her.

My God Elizabeth Lowell is an EXCELLENT author. Who cares if it's romance? You can read her novels and get swallowed up in the story before you even spend 2 seconds thinking about the romantic notions throughout.

I loved the quick pace to this one. It started off with a bang and ended with an even bigger one. It also showed some similar framework to her newer Donovan series. Lowell has a way of inviting you into a story as if you were right there, experiencing the situation yourself, not reading it secondhand.

What a great book to start your Lowell experience!!!
